2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Alabama Christian completed the 2016 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region two, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Alabama Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Andalusia by a score of 42-24. It marked the first time since the 2009 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 1992 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Alabama Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Eagles want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.8 points a game. Since 2010, Alabama Christian has gone a combined 21-50. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Alabama Christian has managed to compile a record of 113-157. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 4A and 263rd in the AHSAA. Bill Moore will not return to Alabama Christian after four seasons at the helm. His teams could never find a winning way as they finished a combined 10-31 and 0-1 in the playoffs. Alabama Christian Academy offensive coordinator, and boys soccer coach, Nate Sanford will take over as new football coach. In 2001, he started at Northland Christian School in Texas and went 55-15 over the next six seasons, and was head coach in 2011-14 at The Woodlands Christian School, compiling 8-5, 5-5, 7-5 and 12-1 records at the school. The Alabama Christian Eagles will play in Class 4A region two during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season. Quarterback Reece Solar returns for his junior season after completing 101 of 212 passes for 1,362 yards and ten touchdowns. He also rushed for 723 yards and another six scores. Senior Alden Stroud rushed for 895 yards last year along with five touchdowns. He also caught 20 passes for 341 yards and another four scores. Junior reciever returns after catching 34 passes for 341 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Eagles open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Providence Christian on Friday, August 25 at Eagles Stadium. Last year the Providence Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 3A region two. Alabama Christian and Providence Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2016 with Providence Christian winning by a score of 6-22. Alabama Christian returns 4A All-State Senior athlete Alden Stroud. He was named to the second team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
